Archimedes
Archimedes
is a male Indian Ringneck. He was born May 7, 2004. Before I
acquired him, I purchased a breeding pair of ringnecks. The
breeding pair produced three eggs and all three hatched. I decided
to keep one, which turned out to be my beloved Archimedes.
Archimedes can do
many tricks such as placing coins into a cup, turning around,
waving, talking on command, and playing fetch. He enjoys talking
and can say many things. Here are just a few of the things he says:
1) What are you doing Archimedes, huh? 2) What’s the matter? 3)
Good boy, good parrot 4) Come here, come here, and 5) hello. The
list could go on and on. During his last vocabulary count, he
clearly says about fifty words.
Archimedes did go
through a bluffing stage (a stage of biting); however, it shortly
passed. Every week he impresses me and he is such a smart bird. He
can escape from his cage no matter how I try to keep the doors
locked.
Archimedes also
enjoys a variety of foods. Did I mention I own a piglet too! This
bird will eat anything I offer him. I can’t think of anything he
does not like, except for potatoes! This parrot eats pellets,
vegetables, fruits, and seeds.
During the day,
Archimedes has a special flight aviary for exercise and sunshine.
Unfortunately, I have to keep extra security in my yard—all my
ringnecks were stolen, including his father.
Archimedes is
currently working on flight commands with a leash.
