Feeding Question

Post by lewi111 »

When I was picking up my new birds from a breeder yerterday,I just happened to mention to him that my ring necks get a variety of fruit and vegies about 4 times a week.He says thats way too much and I should stick mainly to a seed diet and ony give them the vegies occasionally. His reasoning is that because they love the fruit an vegies so much, thats all they will want to eat.Am I doing the wrong thing?.This breeder has about 260 ringies an Alexandrines so he is very experienced. Thanks for your advice.

i give my birds fruit & veg every day & they still eat their seed i also dicussed this with the lady who bred both riku & pickle she feeds fruit & veg every day too
yes they will go for the fresh food first but they also love their seed

maybe i just have a house full of piggy birds though
im greeted every morning with birds waiting not so patiently on the fruit bowl to see what delights i have for them today

was that the guy I put you in touch with?
If it is I think I can understand why he says that  could you imagine how long it would take him to get through giving them fruit everyday. My Grey/green male throws the seed around when I only give him seed, its like he is expecting the fruit to be buried underneath the seeds.

I'm surprised you only come home with one pair  I maybe getting a breeding pair of alexes from him, just gotta convince Aaron that they both happened to fly into that aviary and call it home.

Its good to mix it all up, that doesn't mean to mix
seeds & pellets with veggies unless your bird will
not ignore the healthy stuff & pick away at the seeds.

Its good to mix there eating habits up, just like us
i eat healthy during week but then throw in fast food
at the end of the week because without the junk atleast
once a week i'll go nuts. I still keep the fat off to.

No problem here giving fruits and veggie and my birds still eating their pellets - which is like veggies to kids compaired to seed...lol.

They eat both no problems at all. They look at me everyday like "wheres the goodies" but when I don't have any- they dive right in their pellets.

GOOOOO FOR IT! They love the variety!
