I got my IRN olly afew months ago and he's a great little bird but we've had problems bonding. One of the main problems with us is he's cage obsessed and theres only 1 room in our house that he cant find his way back to his cage in, since our house is and open planned one its not that easy to go to a room where we can take him and spend time with him in.
We really need help.

I have some adive, as my house too is open:
Since you just got the baby, give it some time. Sit in the room and talk to him with the door open. Offer spray millet (they would steal from their moms purse to buy that crap). Let him come to you... he will... I promise.
I feel it safe enough to go out on a limb and say I have the biggest talker on board. He never shuts up and has sense enough to know that his human brothers get pissed at him when he calls them pretty little girls so he does it often. I have a high pitched, almost child-like voice. I, and probably many others here, feel it is because I spend so many hours speaking to him in his cage just as you would a baby in a crib.
In the meantime, if he isnt running from you, its time to teach stepup. We have to get the bird to at least want you (and it takes all of us time). Then, you will have a best friend.
It will be ok. Please ask alot of questions and please dont give up. It is so very worth it.
All of us went through this. Ringnecks make us work so hard for their love. But something about them makes you want desperately to give them love.
As an abuse survivor, I understand my Baby. Im like Dr. Dolittle with my bird. They act alot like an abused child that needs love but is scared to accept it. Thats my take on ringnecks. And I can say I blame them.
