I recently bought a female Indian Ringneck and I was just wondering if she might lay eggs this year. She is not with another bird. I am not sure of her age because I got her from the RSPCA and they were not sure about her age but told me she is an adult, She seems like a young bird. The question I am trying to ask is will she lay eggs with out having a male with her. Sorry for the stupid question

They can lay eggs, but they won't be fertile. Some females will live out whole lives without laying one egg, some will lay every year, and others might lay once or twice and never again. So that's the answer, "maybe".
Welcome to the board! Also, no question is stupid.

Re: laying eggs
Could the RSPCA tell you how old she is and whether she has laid eggs before?
The three main factors that affect breeding are:
1) access to a mate - and for domesticated birds, they can confuse their fav human for a mate
2) access to a nesting site - cavity or nest box
3) access to an abundant diet that is high in fats and sugars.
In theory, if you can control these things, your bird _shouldn't_ lay eggs. Before she lays eggs, she should also give you warning ahead of time, you should see her trying to make a nest or seek a cavity for nesting. I have a female and a male and I am currently going through female nesting behaviours and they can be quite difficult to deal with, depending on the bird.

Thanks for the replies. No the RSPCA couldn't tell me much info about her because she was a stray and I don't think anyone that worked there knew much about Indian ringnecks
