library of mutations what do you think?

Post by sheyd »

Okay, so we all know about this one:
http://psittacula-world.com/EN/Mutations/P-krameri.htm

Wouldn't it be good to get more (high quality) pictures close-ups ect of the mutations all in one place so that people like me can use them as a reference? If people are worried about the use of their images without their permission they could put a watermark or similar so to discourage those who would want to do the wrong thing?

Someone mentioned earlier about having a white or pale grey background as a neutral colour- and one that all could achieve- if we could use the same background then we could compare a bit more easily- or if that wasn't possible to say above their pic that the colour was close to true life?

What does everyone think?

Someone mentioned earlier about having a white or pale grey background as a neutral colour-
White will not work as no matter how you change the brightness (aperture) it will stay white so achieving an apples to apples comparison of the birds cannot be done with a white background.

If all birds were imaged against a specific grey background all birds could be compared.

Thanks for the link- seems like there is more to it than I originally thought- where would one buy a grey card (and is there any interest from other forum members to do this?) I have three birds to contribute if others were also interested.

If we are serious in doing a grey card/ grey wall
I can find the paint formula that best suits a grey card.
I can list the formula here and all you need to do is to take it to your paint shop and ask them to mix it for you.
250ml of paint will suffice.

We can use a well known color like Colorbond range, opinions which one we should use, see below

Windspray ?

Windspray looks good- I downloaded the colour to have a better look, it doesn't appear so dark once the colour covers the entire monitor.

How many coats do you reckon-2 or 3 and how big should the card be (600mmx600mm)?

I know someone who works in a paint shop, so if another colour (or a mix) is to be used instead it won't be a problem.
