breeding season. . .

Post by thirdy »

hi there. . .
When breeding season is over i leave my pairs the hole year together. But next year i want to give my ringnecks each a new mate. A breeder told me that if breeding season is over i must put my males in one aviary, the females in one aviary and the new chicks in one aviary. So if it is the next breeding season when i give them their new mates they wont fight that much. I am a little scared that if i put the males in a aviary and the females in a aviary they will fight. Can someone help me please. . .

I put all my pairs and young in the same aviary after breeding season. Once 2 hens were fighting so I seperated them. Then I pair them up with no nest boxes about 2 months before breeding season to give them a chance to bond. I often break up previous pairs. I wouldnt put a previous pair in breeding cages next to each other, specially if they keep bonded during the non breeding season.

Most times they wont, but their are always exceptions. They are at their most aggressive during breeding season. I mix all the sexes together when they arent breeding and like I said i have only ever had to seperate 1 Hen from the rest. She used to fight with another Hen and this was mainly at feeding time.
