Hi ....New ,my 8 year old has 2 indian ringneck

Post by Lolly »

Hi ,My name is Doreen and my daughter Julie .
We have been parrot owners for about 7 years .
about 3 years ago I decided to get my daughter her own parrot as my senegals were a little too mean to her .
It took about a year to find what I thaught was the perfect bird for her and after 2 years I was very right .
When we go lolly from a pets shop she was in rough shape , no tail and her feathering looked really bad ,but she was very cute dispite her appearance.
After taking her home we relized although she was cute she was also very "mean" with time my daughter has mannaged and has perfectly trained Lolly ,I am very proud of her .
She has been talking for sometime now getting a boy for Lolly to share the rest of her life with and I finally gave in after muck discussion about the possibility of getting another "mean" bird and she told me she can do it !
So we just got her a boy and she cant be any happier .......
So another training adventure is now upon us and will be a rough year of bites and crying .

We hope to gather more info at this site .
We spoil her with baby foods (no salt no sugar) organic fruits/vegies ,nectar and treats.
can we add pictures here ?
Thanks Doreen and JulieImage

Welcome Doreen, Julie and Lolly. :)

Wow, that is so great to read your daughter turning lolly into a great friend.
Gives hope to people out there, if an 8 year old, (6 at the time), can bring out the best in a bird, then anyone can do it with patience, love and care.

Well done to you Julie, and your mum has every right to be proud of your efforts. Bet you have been rewarded time and time again from Lolly.

Good luck with your new boy addition. What is his name and what is his colour?

Thanks so much for your kind words!

When we got the boy last week they told us his name was sammy .....but after a week I am thinking he dont know his name ,but it could be because we are srange to him .
So we will wait and see if he really do know his name ....as the name my daughter wants to give him is ..
Pop ....of course...Lolly Pop ....
kids sure are funny .
We are just letting him get used to us for the next month or so before we touch him .
I have found this works well after a move but we talk to him most the day and he has roam of Julies bedroom .
She is now wanting .....yep baby's ....go figure .
This site has a lot of information I have been reading ...thanks` everyone .
I will make a box and put it in ...if they do it then fine but right now im more concentrating on breeding my lory's (julie says that isnt fair lol)

Funny i find the IRN that we have dont seem to be wanting to bathe ? is this normal for the birds?
lorys like to swim and when im doing dishes they jump right in the sink ....
I hate spraying them with water they go nutts ...anyone know of a better way /?
Thanks

My riniges don't like to have a bathing container either but sometimes they will try and bathe in their water dishes....go figure!!
They also do like it most times when I take them outside in their cages for a bit of sunshine and turn the hose on them with the nozzle set on fine spray, or the aviary birds really go to town when it is raining, but only a few, (seems to be the handraised birds I keep in the aviary), like the hose.

Lories DO love their baths don't they. Make a bit of a mess and the conversations they have while bathing is quite funny.

What Lories do you have?
I have Rainbow Lories who are on 2 eggs at the moment. Not sure when they are due to hatch as the hen was a bit sneaky and laid without me knowing!!! lol
Also have 2 Rainbows that I handraised and are about 13 weeks or so old. They are sooooo cute with their clown-like antics. :)

Where abouts do you live?

They are so funny ....and the things they come up with is way funny .
One my female's chili dont like hubby around me and she just yapps like crazy when he comes near me , or if we are having a conversation she will scream her head off ...just him go figure ...20 strangers can come in and she is happy and wants them all but hubby dare not go near :-)
put her on the floor and she walks like a dino... then says bet you cant catch me and off we go .

Rainbow lorys 2 females and a male ....I am going to try my hand at the baby thing .
It would be so nice to raise one of our own .
So it is quite loud in the house .
Lorys are my fave ,I think cause i have never been bitten bad from them .....IRN on the other hand rolmao .......
It is so nice you have babys .....aweeee
