What could be wrong?

Post by meong »

Last december my pallidino x blue laid their 2nd clutch. Their first clutch was early last year and they are only 3 yrs old. Last december they laid 5 eggs and no chicks inside. So i pulled it out after i found out its not fertile. And to my surprise they've laid again last end week of january. Today i've checked the eggs (4) and it seems that it's not fertile again. Can someone help me with his problem. Thank you.

First off, IRNs in the Northern hemisphere will start breeding sometime around December-January... give or take. Having said that, this pair is only in their second clutch this breeding season.

Did they produce any offsprings on last year's clutch?

If they did not, then one (or both) is probably impotent or not breeding correctly. If eggs are being laid, then the problem is usually the male. Keep an eye on them when they mate to see if they are doing it right. While most IRNs do it right the first time, some birds take several tries (or even several seasons) to get it right.

Thank you jay. Yes they produce 3 chicks on their first clutch last year, if you still remember me, kababayan mo ako. Now they've got a second clutch now, and again it seems that it's not fertile.
