ring affected by colour mutation??

Post by Miss_kaos »

Hi all, i have a grey/green irn by the name of bird bird.. He turned the big one just a few weeks ago.. yet i'm not sure whether it is officially a girl or boy so hence the name lol.

Birdbird is talking heaps starting at about 8 or so months saying words very clearly and a little too clearly lol when i walk past his cage and i dont give him some attention he'll shout at me "whatchya doing!?". he cracks me up. anyway i was just wondering that if it is a boy if there is a predicted outcome of the colour of his/her ring???

Also i have not seen any signs of a moult except little white fluffy feathers flying round so i dont know what that means.. I'm also not sure the age of a first moult... but i am noticing his beak is... i guess... like flaking. but it is looking bigger or maybe it's just me.. i know he gets fed a good diet with variety so i'm not too concerned but thought it would be worth asking some advice... so if theres any out there on the above topics it would be appreciated thank you.

Hola there,

If it is a boy expect (starting from the bottom jaw) going around the neck (getting thin towards the birds back neck area). Around the back of the neck where the black starts to fade, it will be a pinky/pale orange/rose colour (depending on bird).

Here is a link for many many different pics of Indian Ringnecks. I find this site invaluable for mutation pics!

Some have more detail than others :D Enjoy.

Fah, I have visited the site you mentioned in your reply to Miss Kaos. Thanks very interesting. However.. I have one question... My Skye blue IRN seems very much like the Aqua Blue mentioned in the site. S/he is 5-6mths old and still not sexed. However s/he seems to have black eyes with light blue irises (which is not mentioned anywhere in the site) Can it be possible or is it just because s/he is still young. Will iris change colour? Also his nails are pink.

Thank you
