I would just like to know; my IRN makes alot of noises and sounds, and he is a VERY friendly bird. If he keeps quiet than it is for about 10 minutes or so, not longer. Now I would like to know; does this mean my IRN will talk some day? I always say his name in a special tone, and in the week I heard him make the tone, as if he is saying his own name, but only making the tune..............................
DOES THIS MEAN SOMETHING?
What are the signs?????????????????

You could have a big talker on your hands or a very happy little chirpy bird.
You wont know if your bird will talk until it looks over and asks you 'what ya doin'? It happens that fast too! Then, its on like neck bone... you'll be wishing they never learned.

Very good explanation.... they are VERY self-conscience about speech so they wait until they are alone to practice and it is veeeery low one can barely hear it.
When they get it right. Bam, they know it and show it.
If you actually hear them cattering pretty loud and happily, thats just chatter. Talking practice usually happens with one foot tucked and almost in a trance (preparing to sleep) state and you have to listen hard to hear it, even if in the same room.

I keep wondering how it will be when my IRN can talk. I wake up past 5 in the mornings, and then he only starts chirping and making sounds when all the lights are on, but on weekends, he starts chirping and making sounds at 5 IN THE MORNING. I don't know how he knows it is 5 o'clock.I think he is use to the fact that there is life at 5 o'clock, so when no one wakes up weekends, he makes us wake up. And funny enough, when I am finally awake, then he doesn't care, he just keeps quiet, chirping QUIETLY to himself and playing with his toys. Typical 3 year old...

God, Julie thats the worse because I am here working all day so I knew he was speaking. It literally took about a month for him to get loud enough when speaking for my family to believe it.

Well, parents understand what their children are saying before anyone else, so why not with birds too in my experience with birds in general, They have this certain sound....I call it babbling (like a baby babbles). It will be w/ a talking voice, but just making nonsense noises. I guess i can't explain it very well....does anyone else know what i mean?

HaHaHa .. my husband is doing that to me right now.. Kai says.. "step up .. step up kai" and I keep saying.. here that .. did you hear this time.. and shakes his head and looks at me like i am hearing things.. lol
he says Hey baby .. but it only sounds like hair bear bear .. three exact sounds .. but that will change I am sure with pracice.
Kai use to practice in private until.. every time I would hear a new sound or a word forming I would run in saying the word and telling him he was a good boy and gave him a treat.. Now he talks anywhere and everywhere , practicing morning noon and night and you can tell its paying off.
Soon as he is understandable to all Iwill video him. And guess what .. Jordan is copying him .. the way he talks the way he prances on his stand, Jordan will even go onto Kai's stand and pretend to be Kai.. lmao .. its so funny.
They are still doing the feed each other thing too, so cute.
Hey, you guys that know me and my birds well, do you reckon I could house JOrdan and Kai together in Kai's big wooden mansion now they seem to get along so well ?? Then I could move the other birds around better. What do you think ? (edit) Strike this question I just read the post, two birds in one cage and I think I just want ya'll to ignore this question. What a sad affair!

Although my IRN is too young to talk, my son's budgie is a real talker and at first it was just me and my son that could understand what he was saying. Charlie is now 2 1/2 and can be understood by anyone even people who see him for the first time. He also puts words together in a manner that he hasn't been taught to him. Example he says "hello you" to strangers. He has been taught to say hello of course and 'how are you' but don't know how he got the 'hello you'. Charlie also says come on, hello charlie, shut up (funny at first but is now annoying!!!!
) and just lately BOO!! that is really funny.-

Yall have seen the videos of Baby. If people cant hear his big mouth, plain as day, they are deaf dumb and blind.
Yet, when they begin it seems our families are jealous and act as if they dont hear crap. But when they are looking right at you saying 'Hey boy, c'mere boy, wanna be a good boy OR girl, whichever he chooses.
Then they have to accept IRN's talk. My family said I would never see the day that bird talked, great support huh. But thats ok because Im hard-headed. Today my Baby has well over a 150 word/phrase vocabulary and never, for the love of God, shuts up
