Ringnecks normally this quite?

Post by Missie »

Brought my new baby home last night, 2 months old turquoise blue male (DNA tested and banded). I have him in a small cage until next week, which I think is a good idea as I can move it about the house and have it sitting right next to me where ever I am, last night he was stuck to the side of the cage and showed little interest on what was going on about him. I fed him his night time feed and put him to bed, got him up this morning him, gave him his food, that he really didn't take and put the radio on and left him until we came home from work.
Got home and brought him back into the living room, spoke to him and kept putting my hand to the cage until he backed off, and then removed my hand. Spent this evening in the basement with him, put my hand in the cage and got him to step up onto my hand by putting my hand under him and lifting, took him out and placed him on top of his cage, where he cleaned himself and looked about until he jumped off and glided across the basement. When I fetched him I again put my hand under him and he stepped up!! walked back to the cage and he hopped on top again.
After a few hours of talking and moving towards and away from him, I put my hand under him to step up and he got on, here started the game of me picking him up and moving him 1 foot for him to jump with 2 flaps back on top of his cage. I worked out that if I hovered my hand over his head I could get him to stay long enough so I could get him to the door of the cage and he then hopped off.
He's has now just finished his dinner (an hour in the seed dish).
Just got asked by my mum on facebook if he was loud and I thought I have not even heard him make a sound! Is this normal? are they quite birds? I was expecting lots, can they be this quite or is he just still settling in?

Thanks all
Missie

Hi Kislanya, thanks for the information, they are just like my kids then, one very loud and the other one quiet. I'm sure I am one of a very few parrot owners that gets excited when the bird just gives a small chirp, and wishes he talked more. At least we now know he is not a mute bird
