I know that the members on this board change constantly and I haven't been on for a while, but for those of you who remember Atticus, it is with overwhelming grief that I have to announce that she left us yesterday morning. She had been very ill for a few days and was staying in the vet's surgery. S...

Atticus PBFD Update
Hi all - sorry it's been SO long since I've posted. I have dropped in a couple of times but I've just been too busy lately. Anyway, thought I'd put up some photos of my deformed little brat. As you can see she's a bit of a mess since her last moult. She did have a tail (3 feathers anyway) for about ...

Thanks guys - you have no idea how much better I feel just knowing that you care so much. I know when I read about baby's tragic death it was too much for me to bear. And I know I'm probably being too pessimistic but that was just the mood I was in yesterday - glum you know? Anyway she's back to her...

Blood in her poo
Scared the sh.. out of me on the weekend when I got home from shopping and noticed that Atticus had done about 3 poos with blood in them. And it wasn't mixed up in the poo - there was big blobs of it. Rang the vet straight away (thank goodness they're open on sundays) and rushed her off with sample ...

Hmmm - I think I agree with you all - I can kiss the couch goodbye. After dragging her out 58 times in a row I get to the point where I just think stuff it - eat the couch! I hope she tires of it soon. At the moment I have blankets draped all over the bloody thing in a paltry attempt to stop the des...

Now she's destroying the couch!
Aaagh! This bird never stops! Having solved the problem of her chewing the timber rail she is now obsessed with getting in under the cushions of the couch and ripping it to shreds!! Now I can't rub vaseline all over the couch so what to do? Apart from throwing all the cushions on the floor and sitti...

If it turns out to be psittacosis (which sounds pretty unlikely) then it's not as bad as you may first think. Atticus was diagnosed with psittacosis almost a year ago after we had moved house. I was pretty shattered at the time. The vet said that most birds carry the virus but show no symptoms. Symp...

Atticus' first videos!
Okay they're really scruffy but hey, I'm new at this. This is where she has spent the last 3 days in my office - in the paper bin. Shredding and scratching around like an old chook (nesting????). She comes out for a poo every half an hour or so and then straight back into it. The first one is how sh...

Just back to the shower perch - I bought Atticus one after it was obvious that she loved the shower - but she is petrified of it! She will not stay on it at all. When I first got it I just had it stuck to my desk so she would get used to it but not a hope of that. Stuck it in the shower and tried to...

Night fright????
Two nights ago I put Atticus to bed - no problems - then about 2 hours later we heard a big bang and she started screaming (not her normal annoying scream but her panicked one like when she's at the vet). We all came rushing from all corners of the house to see what the hell was going on and here sh...

Don't they just crack you up when they are playing? I love it when Atticus gets a toy in her claw and pretends that it's stuck on, thumping it up and down on the floor, biting it and growling the whole time like she can't get it off. I am thrilled that I got Atticus into the shower because she absolutely loves it, but I am just wondering if I should still offer her a bath every now and again. Atticus' test results are back
The vet rang me yesterday to let me know and confirmed my fears - positive to beak & feather but negative to everything else (polyomvirus, psittacosis, pachecos). Bad news I know but like he said, it's the better of two evils. If it turned out to be polyomavirus then she would have become a very...

Yep just like that - but no blood. I only have a crappy camera today but you can get the general idea from this pic. The top feather was her tail feather - another one came out the same but didn't fall out. That's what I mean by deformed - pretty bad eh. http://members.optusnet.com.au/apodsoil/mypic...

I tried to get some pics but she won't stay still for long enough! The feathers sticking out are her flight feathers. She's just had her yearly check up at the vet and things aren't looking very good. You see as well as the white feathers coming through she's also had a lot of deformed growth in her flight and tail feathers. Some come out thin and mottled, some just fall out before forming properly. The vet is conv...

Seriously! On a sunday arvo I'll be in my usual position - lying on the couch - and atticus comes and sits on my belly, has a clean and then naps with me - but she lies down! It's not a full lie down - she kind of leans forward so that her belly and head are flat on me - but she stays in that positi...

Just out of curiosity (or stupidity) - what does their threat call sound like? I know when a stranger comes into the house Atticus lets out her alarm call - short and sharp squawks repeatedly. She's destroying the house!
Atticus has taken to chewing the timber around the top of the staircase resulting in big chunks all over the place. I tried rubbing lemon juice on it but it seems that she likes that too!
