Hi,
I wouldn't recommend restricting food like pellets, unless your avian vet has told you to do this and given you a plan to follow.
Your bird probably won't over eat green vegetables, so offering lots of these should do no harm.
Personally, I don't feed very much fruit to our bird, about a teaspoon full of fruit and berries a day, otherwise he pigs out on that instead of eating his vegetables.

I have any other recommendations for toys, our bird likes playing with branches more than the plastic toys we bought from the pet store. Maybe someone else can recommend some good ones.
A good play gym is a great idea, we have a couple and our bird loves climbing on them!
