i was reading the mail, then she was runnign about on the floor, i notice she was like asking me to play catching and wrestling we used to play
it rather a rough game, like a chase her untill i cought her, she can run anywhere, under the table, sofa or anywhere she can run...after i cougth her, i will grab her and wrestle her around...
so, today she like come to my leg(she is on the floor) the tab me leg with her beak then run, look at me, tab again, run again, for a few time...
yup
so i think she is asking to play her favourite game...then we play...there is a few half broken tail feather and i accidentally push it,(not pulled) puch in to the bone...so little bit only...
she scream like arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, then bite hard...
i trid to calm her by hugging her...it works...i speak to her softly, after she calm abit, i put her on a chair, and wen to get whole meal bread and eat it,,,she was chasing after me,(another game)...then she forget about the accident......
i think to, to make a bird less traumatised by accident is to let her forget the accisdent as fast as posible by rise up the excitemnet about other things they like(for my case, if im eating bread, she will be entu to play the chase...)
i think, i think only...i learned it from today accident........

just saying hello-
Hi Leo, I've not visited the msg board in many weeks,so I just now read about your ordeal with losing Tango- what a scary thing you both went through! I'm so glad you two are reunited...Tango is very lucky to have such a loving Dad!
I don't think my "Bodhi" would fly away even if he could- he follows me around like a puppy! But my budgie "Chipper" managed to fly out the back door a couple months ago-I didn't even make it past the back door to go looking for him before he sailed right back inside! We are both so fortunate that our birds came home-especially in Tango's case;she must love you a lot! -Best wishes- Sue, Bodhi,& Chipper

thanks alot chipos...
i think it still best to still trimmed the feather...
last time my tamest cockatiel flew away as i think he will never leave me as he was very clingy,,,
when they get frighten, they will fly in random direction in top speed, they can hit the glass, ceilling or run off the window, when they realise it, it is too far and most likely they dont know where it is....
yup...

Hi again-
Yes-I agree-I am absolutely an advocate of wing trimming... for most, if not all, companion birds! I've been lucky as well as careful-only 2 brief escapes over my 3 decades or so of living with birds;both times I had put off trimming as a "favor' to the birds-WRONG!
That said,I also feel that an improperly done trim can be as bad or worse than no trim at all...my own poor Bodhi came to me with a really botched trim job(done by a supposedly experienced handfeeder) and it caused him to crashland into a window because he didn't have proper control to land softly.Thank goodness he only bruised an eye and his ego-and luckily we were at the vet's office at the time!
I reccommend getting a bird's initial trim done by an avian vet or other expert;then maintaining it at home if able.
