Wow, smoky is smart. What can you do? He doesn't want to stay in his cage all alone when you leave. Poor guy. Mine do this too, when fully flighted they will at some point decide that they want to do what they want to do and they become hard to catch. When this happens - bang - off go the wings. By ...

I am sure Skye will continue to speak (english and birdie). He probably just got excited by the new bird and reverted to natural bird noises. If it takes some separation time to keep Skye reminded of his english, then that is a good idea. If both you and Skye speak english to the new bird, there is ...

They may have wanted some bleeding so as to collect the blood. On a mature IRN, my vet can put a very tiny needle in the leg vein to get the blood, but on a baby, maybe not possible. I cut my birds nails myself and am careful they do not bleed. If this vet makes them bleed again, I would not let her...

Is this bluffing?
My female is nine months old. She is extra sweet and every morning I reach into her cage and pat her head and she is very happy. Today I reached in and...CHOMP - she bit me. Bad girl! She continued to be very cage dominating and I took her out with a stick. Once she was out she was ok, still a bit n...

I am glad you are giving him a chance. The fact that he does not try and bite, but instead only runs away shows a gentler natured bird. He could bite as you do training, but it sounds like he is not that aggressive. It will take time to train him, but you can do so. You never know if any bird will t...

I would not put them in the same cage. Especially a female IRN, no matter how tame to humans, will be territorial of her cage. If you put her with a conure, you could have a lot of trouble. I have three IRNs, each has it's own cage. They can play outside together, but if I put them in the same cage:...

A female can talk. I have a female who is trying to talk now. Her learning is delayed because I got her when she was already 6 months old and not very nicely raised. It is interesting about how the gender of the animal can influence a person's thoughts. My green IRN Wallis was sold to me as a female. I bought Wallis strictly for personality. Wallis is a very ordinary looking bird, not brilliant, but my main interest is personality of the bird. So all along I cal...

Dark eyes and age
I am curious, at what age does the eye of the IRN change from being all dark to having the light circle around it? My new bird is all dark eyes right now, but I wonder when she will change.

Re: when they will talk, or they will never?
My female I got when she was 6 months and she was quite untame. I did not think she would be able to talk. But lately she is trying to talk. She is now 1.5 years, so this has taken one year. I don't know if she will ever be a good talker, but I can tell she is trying it out. It just started this mon...

.Here is a photo of him/her. I am leaning to the name Cosimo and call it Cosi for short.

This is the tamest little bird. S/he is fully flighted and will always fly right onto you, even onto your finger if you hold it up for her. It is different than most ringnecks I have dealt with.
