Cuttle Fish

Can cuttle fish you pick up off the beach be given direct to your bird or does it need to be cleaned or rinsed.
Well, what I do for safety sake is boil things I get from the beach (large shells i turn into toys, cuttle etc).
About 5 minutes in boiling water. And dry completely in direct sunlight.
Should be fine to use after that.
On a side note, never use drift wood, its impossible to know the background of the wood and whats been growing / seeping into the woodwork.
