Hi
I have a new IRN whom I think has splayed, he doesnt stand and is always lying down. He isnt keen on his food either but will et it when I offer it to him. I am going to try the sponge method that has been mentioned on many websites. Anyone have any ideas
Thanks

The sponge method has worked over and over for the breeders that I know that have had this problem.
There is really no other way to handle this at a young age, and if you put it off too much, it will actually grow in that manner and be a much larger problem in the future.
He really should be enjoying his hand rearing mix, especially at that age. You have the mixture right, heat right and have it in a nice warm brooder?

Yes all of the above I thought maybe to add some pureed frit to the mixture to see if he likes that better

Is it natural for baby ringnecks to want to hide all the time, he seems happiest when he is under a blanket. He seems to be walking a bit better now I have been making him walk every now and then throughout the day. Its so cute I place him 1/2 a metre from me and he comes straight over and snuggles in as close to me as he can so he isnt seen lol
Thanks for the help

I had a splayed legged chick just this season. She was much younger than your little one though. Only a week or so old when I found her in the nest with splayed legs.
I did the sponge trick and it worked for me.
Don't use housegold sponges as that was all I had on the day and it started to rub her legs causing a bit of discomfort. Try using makeup sponges, they are the best and softest......and stay soft to.
