has anyone else had one talk this youn
I don't raise ringies. I only have 1. His name is Sky. He's 7-8 months old, but he's already copying my tone and the erm.. melody of the word if you will. (by 'melody' I'm trying to say the way the word sound when it comes out of my mouth with the descending and ascending tones and sounds) I coulda sworn I heard him say 'hello' when he was about 6 months old. He's still learning. Who knows.. Skeet might just be a really gifted talker. I'm sure you know, individuals of the same species are better talkers than others. It all depends on the individual. Ringies are known to be good talkers, as it is. I'm not real surprised Skeet is already learning some words. Post some video of this. It would be really interesting to see video as she gets better at talking. Shoot some when she makes those imitation noises, but don't let her see you, cuz she'll stop.
I have one bird (named Bird!) who talks all the time and another (Floss) who has only said hello once. They are 13 months old now. Bird has been talking since he (I like to think he is a he) was about 7 or 8 months old but before that he practised for a long time. He would make a funny little huffing noise then say nonsense words in a deep, human like voice. Flossy said hello in a high voice!
When he did start talking properly it was really clear. I walked into the room one day and he said "hello" so I said "hello yourself" but he seemed quite bored with the whole conversation after that. Then the next week he said "hello, what are you doing". I say this to my birds whenever I walk past the cage but it was not the thing I was trying to teach them to say! Sometimes, instead of saying 'what are you doing' he just says "doing?" He still won't say 'good parrot' and 'happy vegemite' which are the things I have been trying to teach them. He will say "good boy" to the dog and "good poopy" which is my pup's nickname (much to my husband's disgust). He also says "Good boy, ouch!" or "Good boy, ow, ow!" which is what I must say when the dogs wants to jump up (my 10 month old pup is 37.3kgs and is quite lean - so a big dog).
I love it when Bird talks. Sometimes he will chat away for hours, especially if I am working on my laptop near their cage. He has endless chats with our golden retriever pup. He calls out "Poopy" but draws it right out like "Pooooooopy". He also laughs like me when the pup does something funny. It is very strange to hear your own laugh coming from a bird!
I love my bird. I say "Parrot kisses" and they press their beaks against my lips. They also lean their beaks against my eyelids if I have my eyes closed and then look really closely into my eyes when I open them. They also like to preen my hair and my face. I think they are the funniest little characters.
Choco started imitating tones when he was around three months old and at five months (six months on the 7th Feb) can say clearly "Whatya doin" "Allo" and "Choco". Choco can also wolf whistle and reverse wolf whistle and make kiss sounds as well as Aww-www.
Needless to say- we were very surprised that he was talking this early!
Indians can start trying to talk or talking from basicly 4-5 months. There are some factors that can help in making them better talkers, which I wont go into here atm, however... it can be entirely up to the bird as well.
I have a 4yo IRN that has no interest in talking anything slightly human... however you do a new whistle or giggle or click, and he will pick it up very fast and perfect it.
Whatever floats their boat is what they will get a hold of faster, as its fun for them and its good that the bub has an interest
My IRN is just over a year old, he started saying his name around 8 mths he also barks like a dog but he hasn't learn anything since. But I don't stop trying, by some of the things I have read I might just come home one day and he will have all kinds of things to say
My IRN is about about 6 months old now and hasn't even tried to say a word yet. He has learn't a couple of whistles, but in the whole he is a pretty quiet bird. He loves chirping when he's flying around the house, and I awlays talk to him, but he never says anything back. Have you all had to train your birds to talk or did they just pick it up along the way?
well kieron could talk when i first got him but hyas kinda slipped back now hes in an avery
riku just started imitaning us
gen jen has only ever said one word but with skeet shes been with people all her life she definitly says hello but alot of her "talking seems to be chirps that sound like sayings i use alot with her that get clearer & clearer with practice so im sure her first full senence will be "no skeet thats my mouse!!!!!!!"
although shes getting close with hello skittle bug!
