My first babies and genetics question

Post by myshelby »

Just wanted to thank everyone for the useful advice and support you get on this site as you can see my babies are doing well. As a first time breeder it is very scary and I am running to this site often to get answers. They are 4 weeks old now
Also can anyone give me advice on how to use the genetics calculator I dont understand the codes and where to enter them ie grey hen x blue cock.

This should possibly be moved to the Breeding IRN forum section.

Edit: your bubs are looking great, good to see it going well.

On a basic level, the genetic calculator works by selecting the correct mutation checkbox for the parent birds.

Grey (the visual grey mutation) is not a stand alone gene. Visual grey is actually choosing the options Grey and Blue, in gencalc.

Visual colours on the left, splits (non visual) on the right.

sf = Single factor, df = double factor... a regular Grey IRN is sf Grey + blue both in the visual column.

Turquoise Blue is actually Turquoise(parblue) as well as split to blue.

Hope this helps, its just a general rundown.

Below is a screenshot of what a Grey cock bird to a Turquoise Blue hen should look like. 1.0 = Cock, 0.1 = Hen. Then hit "Generate" when are done selecting the mutation values required.
