Is it okay to breed different color IRNs?

Post by LPP »

I am buying a blue IRN female from a breeder and a green male from a pet store. Is it okay to breed two different colors together?

Assuming they get along well together, yes! You'll probably get some blue and some green babies, depending on each bird's genetics. I don't know much more than that, as I don't breed birds. I would love to someday, so i've been reading a little about this.

It's fine to breed birds of different colors together.

If your birds are not split for any mutations all of the offspring from this pairing will be visually green but split for blue.

By "split", I mean that they will carry a recessive gene that does not show up on the bird visually but can be passed along to it's offspring.
