Aww now Imran, didn't you say you were into egypt etc. its only because of that you spelt it that way

Dictionary.com
Al·ex·an·dri·an /ˌælɪgˈzændriən, -ˈzɑn-/ Spelled Pronunciation[al-ig-zan-dree-uhn, -zahn-]
–adjective 1. of Alexandria, esp. Alexandria, Egypt.
2. of or pertaining to the schools of philosophy, literature, and science in ancient Alexandria.
3. Alexandrine.
–noun 4. a native or inhabitant of Alexandria, esp. Alexandria, Egypt.

(note: 3. Alexandrine - native or inhabitant of Alexandria) but you would naturally think a native or inhabitant of Alexandria would be an Alexandrian .. like someone from Australia is an Australian or America is an American ? right

I just read somewhere the other day that Alexander of Macedon was responsible for first taking these guys from India to Europe, and it's for him that they're named. So maybe it's "Alexandrine" to distinguish the parrots as being named for his taking them to Europe, as opposed to being "Alexandrian," which would mean they were from one of the many Alexandrias that Mr. The Great named for himself? (BTW, do you think the first parrots Alexander acquired wasted any time in cutting him down to size?)
