Wish I had pics for sure but today something frightened Aggie to the point that she lost her huge tail feathers immediatly and the rest just came out on their own.

Now she is moulting but this isn't due to that. She has two medium length tails left...my little ducky butt LOL

Oh yeah...Prinny did it...they are like those lizards. It's a defense mechanism...or at least that'a what I have been told

Scared the tail feathers out?

Post by Bird crazy »

Wow that is amazing. I think I had heard that but never knew it really happened. Poor thing. Does it take long to grow them back. Like months or weeks?

It must throw her balance off. But can see how it would be a protective mechanism in the wild.

Does she get on your arm willingly now or still working on that?

I'd love to see some pics. Any progess on finding the camera?

Sue, she is willingly stepping up now and is doing great about stepping up politely.

Sorry, I tend to post over at BB about Aggie...since they have a macaw forum. Must remember to post it here too...

No camera yet...I think I have to just buy a new one

hey duck-butt *ummm* I mean Dani :D

I guess sticking feathers in your butt doesn't make you a b&g either

Seriously, I never knew they could be scared tail-less, makes sense, guess I hadn't though about it :)

Mila let me put a flight suit on her today* jumping up and down excitedly*
Anybody else tried the flight suit???

I want, I want, I want PICS!!!!!

*hugs*

Well, what do you think a predator could grab hold of easily? The tail. Our late pointer mix got a mouth full of tail feathers from a dove outside. Bird kept going and left the feathers behind. ^^

At least losing feathers in better than breaking them. Loss of a feather stimulates new growth, while a broken feather will be there until the next moult. :?

Tsume grabbed Hane's tail and made it curly! I'm so happy he finally moulted those!

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay
