My IRN is getting scared

Post by krishna »

Hi

My IRN "lucky" is been with us past 3 weeks and now it is taking fruits from our hand and eating. Lucky has been coming out of his cage of late, but when we go to touch lucky, he is getting scared and moving away. Please guide us what should we do ?

I also need another help in another aspect, we have brought T stand for lucky on which he sits but some time he goes here and there exploring things in our house, we are worried of lucky that it shouldn't hurt itself, so what is the best way to make it sit at one place?.

Hi,
Ringnecks are not really cuddly birds like conures and cockatoos. Some will allow you to pet them. This takes lots and lots of time and patience. I had two babies that had no problems being held and petted. The third just ran up my arm to my shoulder. Each time I put them in their cage, I would pet them to reemphasize hands are ok while I gave them a kiss. I would suggest you trying to pet your bird as you put him in it's cage. Or start at the tail feathers and gradually work your way up.
As far as keeping your bird in on place, it sounds like you need to clip it's wings. Clip the primary wings up to the first two. This will allow the bird to still fly just not with height. Also, their feathers are beautiful from behind. If you have never clipped wings before there are some instructions on the web like http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww53eii.htm
I hope this helps!
