Signs of Molting

Post by Donovan »

My bird (he's blue) has had some rough looking feathers lately. He's a little rugged looking. Is this a molt? A couple weeks ago there were tons of the little body feathers in his cage. I tried researching this before asking, but mostly I found stuff about first molts, so here I am.

Some of the rugged looking feathers are whitish looking so i am guessing they're ready to fall out.. I just don't actually know though. Maybe he just needs a good shower.

Hey Donovan, don't you know he's rugged looking 'cause he's a good ole boy!

In seriousness, it sounds like molt. If yes, then he's a bit ahead of Rocky, but probably not by much. You are a little ways South of us. Molt starts with all those million, trillion sticky little down feathers. I think the tail feathers are the last to go. Give Mr. Bell a nut for me!
