Always infertile 4th egg

I have a pair of violet ringneck and for the last three years they laid 4eggs but every three times 3 chicks hatched from the 4 eggs .Any body tell me why the 4th egg is always in fertile ?

Most likely after the hen lays the first egg she won't let the male breed her again so by the time the fourth egg makes its way down there is nothing to fertilize it.
