Photo Comparisons-Emerald V Other Parblue

Post by Ring0Neck »

Thus far Emerald breeding results point to Emerald being a Parblue mutation.
(we will close monitor further breeding results no doubt )

Meanwhile, I thought that a visual comparison between Emerald V other Parblues wouldn't hurt.
It will also help other breeders identify their birds & new comers to Emerald know what to look for.

Will start off with a series of pics emerald v turquoise in grey color.

To read my pics better i reference any changes i make to pics as per below:
filename ending with an s= small - i made the pic smaller in size & or cropped
AL= auto lighting - feature in Paint.net program

Start off with a couple of pics of a 6 week old grey emerald & father, closeups.

Other breeders if they can do a same shot comparison between emeraldblue V turquoise & or Indigo would be great.
in violet & cobalt again would be valuable input.

Hi Willy,

Could you tell us the fluorescence emitted under uv by each bird?

Regards

Recio, the EmeraldBlue is as you have seen, total body fluorescent. The TurquoiseBlue and IndigoBlue fluoresce only on the patched psitticins. The IndigoBlue fluoresces the least.

Thanks for your input Molossus, sure they are helpful.

Hi Ben
I have a recently fledged Dark EmeraldBlue with yellow arm pits and my daughter has two Dark TurquoiseBlues, well feathered but still just in the nest. I can photograph them if you think it will help, but I'm unsure how much yellow pigment the young turquoise birds have as yet.
Kind regards
Mike

Hi Ben
Please find some comparative photos attached. All 3 are young birds recently fledged, all 3 are Dark Factor Blue, or Cobalt as most people know it, with genotypes as detailed below.
Dark EmeraldBlue split cleartail
Dark TurquoiseBlue split cleartail
Dark EmeraldBlue Cleartail

The emerald and turquoise split cleartail birds look less alike on the back than the photographs indicate, with the turquoise being notably bluer. Underneath, they are strikingly different with the emerald being blue/green with pale yellow wing pits and the turquoise being blue overall.
The dark emerald split cleartail and the dark emerald cleartail are exactly the same on their backs but their bellies are obviously strikingly different. It seems that the cleartail gene has no diluting effect on the back and wings.
Kind regards
Mike
