Hi all,
Bought a 5 month old ring neck called fergie, we were told he was hand tame but he seems extremely scared to me! Going to give him a few days to settle and work from there. So glad this sites here to help me make my baby as comfortable as possible.

Hi, welcome. Hows it going with your bird? Just remember Patience and Never Force, when it comes to Ringnecks.

We are just taking it very slow at the moment, I can't see that he was hand tame as he freaks if anyone goes too near the cage! We spend time sitting with him talking to him and letting him get used to us being there. X

Hi, welcome Smad.
IRNs are known to be scardie-birds, even though they can be reared 'hand tame' they will still not have known you before and certain breeders will state they are hand tame yet only have handled them minimally.
Do keep interacting and handling, you will soon get there. Good luck

Hi Smad,
Ringnecks is they can take time to warm up to new people.
Even my 16 month old bird, who has been socialised quite extensively, can take a few minutes before he approaches a new person in our house.
Patience and yummy treats wins them over in time.

Welcome Smad you might try leaving the cage door open and see if his 'inquisitive nature" gets the best of him and he will come out to visit. I agree with "InTheAir" cant beat those treats
