Can I give my IRN a bit of biscuit?

Post by OllyGreen »

Everytime I bring a biscuit into my room, Olly will fly straight over to me and tried to snatch it off me. Can I give him just a little bit of biscuit or is that really bad for him? It's so funny, even when I hide them in my pocket, he always knows and will stay on my arm or shoulders lol

English biscuit = cookies to us Americans right? Lol

They're high in sugar which isn't good for them. My kids used to like to sneak some to the birds. I started making a dog recipe that had no sugar in it. Now they can have their biscuits while my kids eat theirs :)
I am owned by my birds...and I wouldn't have it any other way :D

It's not excepted practice. But it will not make him sick
As long as it is only a small taste, only a fraction of the daily diet, and not a daily thing.

I maybe wrong, But!
I thought a good part of wild Ringnecks diet, was ripe fruit, and if so they would be used to sugars as part of their diet?
What other things were in the biscuit?

Nah, I don't think I will give him any biscuit because I don't want to risk him being ill. He's started to really love tomatoes now so when I give him that, he isn't interested in anything else :)

Okay... probably shouldn't give the bird tomatoes.. The way I understand it a little is okay.. keep it rare.. certainly not daily.

Why can't you give them tomatoes? I didn't know that, I've been giving him some quite often, some days he has apples and other days he has tomatoes. Can you suggest anything better for him then? He loves fruit

Read up on tomatoes for birds. Some lists say don't feed it to them, and others say in small amounts.

Apples, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, and kiwi are all fruits that my bird seems to enjoy quite a bit.
