Seed Bell vs Loose Seeds?

Post by Octodonk »

Mara has a seed bell and loose seeds in her cage, but I've only seen her eat off the seed bell, never from the loose seeds. I also feed her fruit and millet spray. I've only had her for a couple days, so I'm still working on her diet. Anyway, back to the main point, is it OK for her just to eat her seeds from a seed bell instead of loose? Are seed bells not as healthy? I ask because it seems to me that they're made with honey or something in order to stick them together. Thoughts?

Cheers.

I think you might consider buying a bag of Nutriberries. These are seed balls made to feed to parrots, sprayed with beneficial supplements, and including various other desirable compounds. They are not perfect, and some of them contain Ethoxyquin (so read the label!) but I would give them to my bird before I would give him a seed bell made for outside birds. Also please give your bird some fresh vegetables (peppers, carrot, broccoli, spinach, kale, etc), fruit (berries, apple, etc), grains (oats, wheat, etc).
