help-i have a baby ringneck parrot who will not stop crying
hi guys.i have posted on this forum in the past but not for a little while.i have a male and female indian ringneck parrots and they have a baby ringneck who is just going on 4 weeks.at first the noise was not too bad with the baby but lately it has got a lot louder which i expected but the baby parrot seems to cry all the time and it is driving me nuts.the other 3 eggs did not hatch.this is the first time the male and female birds have had a baby.they feed the baby after i give the adults their fruit and veges and we are letting the parents look after the baby at this stage.i am new at this and i don't know what i can do to help stop the baby crying so loudly in it's nesting box.if it is driving me nuts,it must be driving the parents nuts too.some helpful advice would be great at this stage.thanks.

Hi Celestral
Unfortunately, I think crying loudly is just what happens. I'll never forget going up to some hand-raised chicks in a pet store once and I started to talk gently to them... well that started them off... they were crying and squawking like crazy! I quickly left the scene of the crime! I didn't mean to start them off.
You could check on the chick though to see if it's crop is full after feeding, just to be sure the parents are doing a good job. However, I would tend to think the sign of an unhealthy chick would be one that doesn't have energy to squawk.
Is there anything you can do to insulate the sounds coming from the cage from the rest of the house?
Ellie.

hi ellieelectrous.thanks for your reply.i can't think of a way to insolate such a big cage.what ever we put there, the parents would just destroy it.that is why we have no toys in there cage.the baby woke me up early this morning crying it's brains off.i was up the other end of the house with my bedroom door closed.now we have discovered that the baby is trying to get out of the nesting box but it is still too young at just on 4 weeks.it likes to climb up and look out of the small hole.i think the baby hates being by itself in the nesting box.i can't believe such a small thing can make so much noise all day and at night.i knew there was going to be some noise but not this much.it is really stressing me out and i can't relax at all,not that i can relax with the papa bird sqwarking all day and at night.thanks for your idea anyway.i appreciate it very much.take care.
