Weeeeellllll ... I told you all about Brinly my new Budgie. He had settled in rather quickly, but i wondered and had read how they love to be in flocks and sleep together. Brinly had it all over JOrdan and would snuggle up with Him, but still I felt like, another budgie might be nice for him and later we might even wack a nesting box in and have some babies. Breeding IRN's would be a massive responsibility, especially if I was to hand feed and raise birds that were not just wild aviary birds, so a female budgie was the go (Thankyou Bryan for your info on Budgies), beside I wanted an excuse to go back to all the breeders I had been to a few weeks prior to show my husband and my kids, the conures, alexandrines, ecclectus, princess parrots etc.
Hubby fell in love with a male Ecclectus .. I knew he would.. he vows if we ever have the money he will have a bird like that.
Well Stella is the result, a big fat, bitchy, noisey budgie she has turned out to be. The only name that suited her was Stella "Stteellllaaaaaaa" like in the movie "A Streetcar Named Desire" with Marlon Brando's animalistic cry-yell at the bottom of the stairs for his wife Stella (Kim Hunter). Well it just seemed to suit this Budgie, and boy is she fat, not just feather fluff, but her body is so big and solid.
So, last weekend .. lol .. I go to the local Animal feed barn to get some Hulled Oats to keep her chubby (Bryan I promise I won't make her too fat) and I see two new baby cockatiels in a cage on the front counter, hand reared, sweet as anything. Perfect for my eldest daughter and besides one was being bullied by the other, I just had to rescue it. My eldest daughter took one look and fell in love. Its so cute, such a sweet little face, but sure has a cute way of letting you know its not happy, little squeaks and a pathetic attempt at a bite, especially once you know a ringnecks bite.. lol
Stella, the Big Budge, has not shut up since we got her and I want to ask Bryan, how do I shut her up. I should have stuck to male birds, she has this incessant Chirp Chirp Chirp. I could handle 10 IRN's sounds over that constant Chirp Chirp Chirp. I really thought that I would strangle her, so I put her way down in the laundry where I could not hear her for a night and I told her in a strong voice, "Stella, If you do not shut up, I fear for your life " ... lol.. I was joking of course. WELL.. I think she took me seriously because last night She was as good as gold. (I have introduced her to Brinly alread, same breeders and all). The tiel is in quarantine for a while. But in all honesty, Bryan, does it take the Budgies a while to settle into the new house and surrounding Bird noises, inside and outside/wild birds ?
OH! AND:-
I cannot begin to tell you how appauled I was with Birdworld in Mornington. Every Budgie I looked at to Buy had something wrong with it. A deformed foot from a ring too tight, flakey scaley beaks, flakey scaley feet, bloated crop, broken toe, missing claws. I really feel for those birds, that place is terrible. The registered backyard breeders I have been to have all been A1 except the clipping lessons that Kai/Jordans breeder needs, thats all, but his love and care for the birds, other than that is top rate.
Anyway enough essay, sorry , sometimes I really get carried away.
Some pictures finally
Brinly & Stella
Stella is 2 1/2 years old
Kiely is only 10 weeks old, just off hand feeding
I always thought you distinguished females from males by the colour of their cheeks. Mostly grey with slight colour is female, but bright yellow and red cheeks was male. ?? Kiely is a girl ?? well I thought anyway. The feed barn sell them for the lady that breeds them, they can't remember what she said they were, they thought male. ?? so confused!! .. lol
