Please help with breeding....

Post by Bigfurrypawz »

I have a pair of IRN's. The female is a Lutino (4 years old) and the male is blue (19 years old). They have been in the same cage for 4 months now and the exact same thing happens every day.

1. My female goes in her box and scratches for about an hour or so.
2. Female comes out and assumes the position and clucks.
3. Male gets happy and goes over and scratches her neck and tries to mount her.
4. Female chases him away.

Then back to the same thing the next day. Will they ever mate? Do I need to do something special like play bird porn or something?

Thanks so much for reading and helping.

Hi,
Two questions...
Is it breeding season there?
How old is the male?

Looks as though the male may have lost the knowhow. 19 yrs can do that to a man youknow. Let the season progress and if the eggs are infertile replace him.

The female has never laid eggs. Shouldn't she at least be laying infertile eggs.

Thanks everyone.
