First IRN babies have hatched for 2011!
After what seemed like FOREVER, 3 little chickies have made their way into the world over the weekend.
Mum is a first timer and doing great, dad is a seasoned hand at this and seems to be quite proud after a few years being child free.
Here are the babies...

Re: First IRN babies have hatched for 2011!
Thanks everyone.
Still a few more hens on eggs yet so hoping for a few bubbies this year.
I even have one first timer hen (sister to the mum of these bubs) who has no partner yet she has laid eggs.

Jasper (lutino IRN) has finally had a successful clutch of chicks. First 2 hatched yesterday (11 Sept) and the 3rd today. 2 have red eyes and if all is correct with the genetics I was told the male was, the 2 red eyes should be male pallidinos.
And my first hold of chickie #3

They are looking good.
When do you pair them up and put the nest boxes in?

Thanks Shirleybird and Rod038.
I leave the nestboxes in & the pairs together all year round. I find sometimes in the middle of summer a couple of the ringies use the nests during the day, maybe to escape the heat?

Thanks!
Aprox 5-6 weeks of age. There is just over a weeks age difference between the first and last hatched chick.

Re: First IRN babies have hatched for 2011!
(u just reminded me of my budgie. it can imitate a sniffing sound i make when i cry. and when i DO cry, it happily mimics me)
(its kinda anoying... to be mocked like that... but i still find myself smiling inspite of it all...)
heres a quotation espacially for u:
""dont cry because its over,
but smile because it happened!""
i hope your kids find wonderfull homes! (i wish i could get one... if only i could teleport...)
(u dont happen to ship them feather-packets-of-joy do u?)

Re: First IRN babies have hatched for 2011!
hahaha evaleen. Most have gone to their new homes now, still have a couple looking for homes since the people who asked me about them never contacted me back.
Thanks sheena and Dan.
I did end up keeping one though ...the pallid hen, her name is 'Lacey'. I just couldn't part with her and when Shane said she is very pretty, why not keep her then, I just couldn't let that opportunity pass by.
Here is my newest member to the household, Lacey.
