breeding for certain colours

Post by Louie »

What coloured breeding pairs (hen colour and cock colour) would give: (a) lutino (males preferably) and (b) blue (males preferably). Thankyou for any help in advance. : )
I currently own: 1 male, green Indian Ringneck, 1 Labrador Retriever, 1 Mini Lop rabbit and 4 backyard chickens (silkies)

This is as good as i can get it.
You will need a blue male split to ino
and an Ino(lutino) female split blue

That will give you visual blue male/female
lutino male/female
albino male/feamle
green male/female

1.0 blue /ino
x 0.1 ino /blue
% from all 1.0
25.0% 1.0 blue /ino
25.0% 1.0 green /blue ino
25.0% 1.0 blue ino
25.0% 1.0 ino /blue
% from all 0.1
25.0% 0.1 blue ino
25.0% 0.1 ino /blue
25.0% 0.1 blue
25.0% 0.1 green /blue

Thanks Glenn

Thanks Glenn. Just to clarify when you say visual blue male/female and list the other colours, are the colours listed underneath visual aswell or splits?? Also what colours would the cock and hen be to get blue (males preferably) and lutino (males preferably) in separate breeding pairs (one breeding pair to breed blue males and one breeding pair to breed lutino males)

OK the colours that where beneath where missing blue visual aswell.

Split to meens the bird will carry that colour gene.

I have a better solution after thought.

If you get a lutino male split to ino (carrying that colour gene) and breed it with a blue female.
you get below results.
1.0 = male
0.1 = female

So based on below any blue baby would be a male and it would carry the ino gene.
Any green baby would be a male and carry the albino gene.

Any albino baby would be female carrying no other colour gene.
And any utino baby would be female and carry the blue gene.

1.0 ino /blue
x 0.1 blue
% from all 1.0
50.0% 1.0 blue /ino
50.0% 1.0 green /blue ino
% from all 0.1
50.0% 0.1 blue ino
50.0% 0.1 ino /blue

Thanks Glenn

Based on my first post all the babies would be visually blue or albino or green or lutino and of either sex.

Thanks Glenn.

I think my second option would get the results you would like + you would know straight away the sex of the baby by its colour.

Which is to breed a Lutino split to blue male with a blue female.

Thankyou very much Glenn for all your help. I agree that the second option would be the best for me.
