The male spends most of his time in the breeding box...

Hi there, My Father... about 3 months ago brought a breeding pair of IRN'S.
He made them a breeding box and they virtually moved in straight away
They would only come out to mate and eat.
Now they both spend all their time in there and only come out to eat....
For the last 2 weeks it sounds like they are rollling eggs around but then i have a look they are both in there in each corner sitting.. is it normal for the male to sit on the eggs and spend all his time in the nest box with the female?? we are extremely new to this and your advice would be very much appreciated
