Hello all,

What kind of chillies are suitable for IRN?

Are normail green chillies ok?

I heard people on here feed their IRNS with red bell chillies but was wondering of other alternates.

Hi Skyenet,

It may be that the people who viewed do not know the answer.

As far as I am aware, any kind of chilli is ok. I have only tried red chilli with mine, but they are all the same, just different colours, and differing amounts of spice.

Regards

Shane

I would never have thought to feed them chillis!

Is it good for them? Should I be including this as a part of their diet?

Ellie.

I didn't think of it either.

But apparently because they have no saliva they don't get the same reaction as us with the burning mouth.

I don't think its something that is necessary as part of the diet, but it is something that could be used for variety.

Regards

Shane

Chillies and capsicum (bell peppers) contain vitamins A, C, and E.
If chillies are the same as capsicums, (and I think so, as they are in the same family), then red chillies and capsicums contain a higher content of vitamins then green.
I know of a few breeders who give their birds chillies. Not only do their birds love them, but it is meant to bring out the natural colouring in the bird. Same with pawpaw, mango etc.
I have noticed when I feed my eclectus mangoes, pawpaw etc, the new growth in feathers and beak is much more vibrant. Basically, natures colour enhancer. :)

Thanks - that's really cool. I've got something to add to their diet! That's really cool.

Ellie.
