Re: exited :)
I'll keep fingers crossed for you and please do the same for me. I have a pair on 4 eggs that should be hatching any day now (if they're good, too afraid to candle) and I was told by he previous breed that the hen doesn't do well feeding her babies so they may be day one babies. Yikes!

Re: exited :)
Fingers crossed for you too!
My female IRN has made a nest in her breeding box, i cheaked it yesterday because i was going to swap her box.
Male and female have been more cranky to me latly, and they have been eating more.
Dont think they will breed though.
With my dads pair, im guessing the first egg was laid on the 2nd of march, im thinking it should hatch on the 30th of march, is this right?

Re: exited :)
That sounds about right. I estimated that my first egg was laid 2/12 and it hatched 3/11. I think the average incubation time is about 24 days. From what I understand this can depend on when the hen starts sitting though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I found three eggs in the nest box on 3/17 and a couple days later a fourth appeared. I estimated that my four eggs were laid 2/12, 2/14, 2/16, and 2/18. So far they have hatched 3/11, 3/12, 3/13, and expecting the fourth today if the trend continues.

Re: exited :)
That's part of the excitiment, seeing the colours.
I am a bit lazy and get the parents to do the hard yards , I usually remove the chicks closer to the 3 week mark. A little less demanding with the feeding schedule.
I am sure you will be fine though. Just remember there are people here only too willing to help if you have any problems.

Re: exited :)
I usually leave mine for a couple of days when I remove from nest, just to let them settle in their new home and routine. I handle mine just before and after feeding.
I give them all pre-dinner cuddles etc then when I finished feeding, place all except for one back in the brooder and snuggle with the little one while watching tv or on net etc. They usually end up going to sleep snuggling up....very aaawwwww
I choose a different chick each time for after feeding cuddles. That way I am spending a bit of time with each without intruding too much on their nap times.
As they age and begin to get more feather I handle them more often.
This is just what I do.

Re: exited :)
Maybe they are getting bored with the same taste of the formula. Have you tried adding a small amount of mashed pumpkin, carrots etc? Just enough to change the flavour of the formula.

Re: exited :)
I was told IRNs are fussy at raising as well, but also one of the hardier birds, being more forgiving at mistakes etc. They do seem like tough cookies at times.
I have raised lorikeets and I have found lories are much easier to raise. They are piggies when to comes to food and very easy to wean. Ringies seem to wait until they are older before the food obsession begins. lol

Re: exited :)
Are their crops empty between each feed? If so you could either try thickening the formula or offering an extra feed.
At around 5 weeks of age, I peg millet into their cage/brooder/container and let them nibble on it. Also hang fruit or veg on one of the metal fruit sticks, (you know the metal rod that fruit and veg is threaded onto?),....or you could try the seed sticks. There is also available fruit sticks, similar to seed sticks except is full of dried fruit. I give that to my lorikeets.
For the first few times they will waste more than is eaten, but eventually when they develop the taste for it, they wolf it down lol.
