Do males get 'clucky'?

Post by MallyKat »

Hi!

I have two IRN's housed seperately. This week I have acquired a cage large enough to fit them both plus potential chicks. It needs some maintenance before it is bird safe, so to get them used to each other I've put their cages side by side. Both have started odd behaviour since they've been next to each other. The male has started sleeping on the cage floor. I thought he had died at first! But went over to investigate and he's completely fine, jumped back up on his perch.

The other has begun poking her head through the cage bars toward his cage. I didn't even realise she could fit her head through, I thought the cage had the correct bar spacing. Due to this I am rushing to complete the new cage as I dont want her injuring herself doing this. I'm wondering if this is a good sign though, that she's trying to be closer. And if males get 'clucky' so to speak, Or if he's just realised he likes sleeping on his belly on the floor?
