As most of you probly know,my Lutino hen has laid six eggs,2 hatched and one chick died.
Ill be taking the remaining Chick out to hand raise it in about 10 days time.
My question is----if I do leave the nest box in and she decides to go down again----would it be too much for her as she has already laid the 6 eggs. Also this is her first year of breeding.
I understand about leaving the box in for protection as Fah stated in a previous post, but Im not keen for her to lay another clutch this year.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Nest box in or out???

box
Hi
If you leave the box in she may lay again.
I have a few pairs double clutching.
You must make sure that she especially gets alot of greens and cuttlefish bone or a calcium supplement.
As all birds take calcium from there bones when producing eggs.
On the rare occasion a hen can die if she looses all her calcium from egg laying.
I would maybe close the hole to box and then give her say a week with calcium foods and in the mean time see if she is trying to get into nestbox again,if so after you know she has had alot of calcium let her in and see if she lays again.
Cheers
