Can birds change sex?

My fiance is adament that birds can change their sex within the first year like some fish can and I don't believe him.
He says it's so ratios of males and females in the wild stay the same.
Does anyone know of any birds that can change their sex?

Nope (lots of degrees in biology, but not an ecologist, so I could be wrong, but I don't think so)

No degrees here either but I think it would be something we would have all heard about by now. Unless there is some strange species somewhere, in some amazon basin ?

That would really tic me off if they could :D all the money I've spent on DNA testing.

Unlike humans and certain fish, I don't think any species of birds can change their gender... at least not parrots.

Hunny, my ol man was able to convince me my Baby was an entire year older than he actually is. When pinned to the mat he gave. I dont know what thats all about.

Think our men may be a lil jealous and like to mess with us? If men can be jealous of babies then... I dont know! :?

Birds can`t change their sex after fertilization because egg cell determines which sex hatching chicks are (male and female have dissimilar sex choromosomes).

In birds, although genetic factors control the sex determination program, sex differentiation is sensitive to hormones, which can induce sex reversal when disturbed.
