Moulting?

Post by Jneal12 »

Ok im getting really scared for my ringneck
I do not know if shes moulting or if i need to seek medical help, she acts just fine normal, talking and playing but she is loosing alot of feathers mostly on her head she know just has mostly needle like things on her head she dosent show any other patches on her body just her head and upper wing. Is she moulting or is somthing wrong? She is aprox. 2 years old ( i say aprox because i rescued her) thank you for all your help!

would help if you could post a pic with it
it won't let you post a pic though for like 5 days though.

I don't believe it's normal to lose feathers that much on their head during a molt.
Do a search here for molt / moult

it might take a while to get through the chatter, but somewhere there's bound to be an answer

Sounds like moulting, but if you never had her to the vet for a general checkup then this might be a nice time to take her. They can explain stuff and show you how your bird is healthwise.

The little "needle" things are probably cuticles, ie, like little umbrella covers, when she removes them hey presto! New feathers. Sanjay looks really scruffy at the moment, he is moulting in earnest, and he has a spiky hair style too!
