Is my cage big enough?

Post by twubby00 »

I have a cage that I had my Budgie in and I was thinking of re-using it. It is 12.5 X 21 X 33H is this big enough for an IRN? Should I get a bigger one? If so how much larger do I need to go?

Thanks.

I personally think you need to go larger. Most ringnecks are roughly eleven to twelve inches from head to tip of tail. They also need room to flap and exercise their wings. Someone else might have a better idea of how large of a cage you should get. Mine use perches at night and the outdoor aviary is four feet by three feet by six feet tall. The cage we use indoors for when Luna gets hormonal is two feet by four feet by four feet. So they have huge cages :) You may not need to go that large though lol

the smallest dimension of my first cage was 19"..

I figured out through observance that it was just too small.

the smallest dimension for an irn should be 22" and no less

Yeah, I think 22"x30" would be a starting point. At least 30" high. Bigger better. That would be for a bird who comes out a lot.
