Hi. Hard to say what is a step up sine we don't know what Kiwi's in now......

However, the 1st cage, being 33" x 22" or something like that is, in my opinion, a very nice size for a "small" cage. I confess I am firmly tied to the idea of getting the biggest cage you possibly can. Personally, I would walk into that seed gaurd and tear open my leg, but maybe you are more sophisticated.

This is the cage I use.

When you select your cage, pay attention to features that will make it easy or hard to maintain, such as size of doors, locks, ease of sliding the pan, where to put your supplemental light, etc.

I am having the same issue. Ready to purchase a new larger cage for one of my ringnecks who is no longer a baby : ) I have the savings now and I am ready but I can't decide on the best cage. I'm curious what cages other people use and really like? Space not an issue. Just want it to be best for him.

If space is not an issue and you have the funds, then have one built.

I have a nice walk in cage (it's just for outdoors though).

Had I spent that same amount of money I could have gotten a large cage, but having it built from scratch (wood and wire basically) I was about to triple the size if not more.
