Nest box size and shape?

Post by Clynos1 »

Hi,
I have looked at many books and topics on the web and there would appear to as many people with ideas as to the shape and size of IRN nest boxes as there are IRN.
Can someone advise which is the most successful and what size / shape it should be? Vertical, 'L' shaped, etc. etc.
Very many thanks

hi
I am using a 28cm x 28cm inside with a height of 45cm.
i am currently standing on 28 babies and still about 18 eggs to hatch.
three pairs have already gone down for the second round.
I have one Cleartail female on 8 eggs.

I think that this size box is the right on for the IRN.

Buks, Many thanks for the info.
Looks as though you may have your hands full in a few days / weeks time.

David, I prefer the L shaped box, but have had equal success in both.

Johan, Thanks for the input.
I was thinking of the 'L' shape, only because I did not like the idea of the birds coming straight down onto the eggs / chicks
