Re: SL Edged and Cinnamon: alleles or mutations?

Post by Recio »

Hi,

It would be great if somebody owing a DF SL-Edged IRN could send some wing fligth feathers to Inte. Otherwise, if he can not detect any Brown melanin in the SF SL-Edged bird, we will not be 100% sure that there is/isn't Brown melanin production in this mutation.
When there is a mutation of a gen you can get many effects, some of them behaving as dominant, others as recessive. In SL-Edged birds the possible production of Brown melanin could only appear in homozygous birds and the characteristic edged pattern could appear in both SF and DF birds.
Ex in drepanocytosis : http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/ ... /patterns/
This is the reason I am asking for feathers fromp a DF bird to send to Inte.
