Janey and Charlie vids

Post by ellieelectrons »

Hi

I have just published some Janey & Charlie videos to youtube. Unfortunately my cameraman was at work so I had to interact with the birds and do the camerawork so the camerawork is a bit dodgy!

Janey (blue) was less camera shy than Charlie (lutino) and Charlie is only 8 months old and Janey is 2 years old so Janey is doing more tricks at the moment.

Janey & Charlie wave and do turnarounds

Janey does turnarounds - no matter how hard I tried, Charlie wouldn't do them in this one. He was put off by the camera!

Janey plays basketball - she's not tall enough to reach the hoop unassisted

Janey indulges her nesting instincts (or hides from the camera, not sure which!)

Janey & Charlie "go to bed" on cue.

Enjoy!

Let me start out to say--i love your accent! :D

Wow! Such fantastic videos! You had me hooked from the first one i saw! I like the fact you are going beyond to just "snuggling" with them--you are working their cognitive abilities! :) I cant wait till you teach them more stuff! Your dedication is just amazing! Bravo  !

Thanks Imran. I always cringe when I hear myself talk... especially in the baby voice I tend to use with the Janey & Charlie. I don't know why I put that voice on... but I can't seem to help it. lol.

Since we got Charlie, I'm finding it harder to train them... having two to pay attention to at the same time can be difficult.

At the moment, I'm trying to train behaviours that will make going to the vet less traumatic. I'm trying to get them comfortable with being held in your hand (with your fingers wrapped around their body) and getting used to being in a towel. I also want to get them used to accepting food from a syringe - similar to what you've trained yours to do, which I think is a really valuable thing for them to learn.

Do you have any suggestions for other things for them to learn?

I noticed that your guys do turnarounds (and they are so cute and enthusiastic doing it). What things do you train your guys to do?

Regards

Archimedes is the one who does the most. He turns around, waves, puts coins into a bowl, says hello on command, nods, and now i am working with him to be on his back and swing. :) I just gotta be sure to find time to keep working w/ him as i am always so busy. :P

Best Wishes,
