breeding age range?

Post by shanc21 »

Hi,

I'm wondering what are the ages that IRNs can breed? Is their an age that they tend to stop laying eggs? I'm asking because I have a rescued IRN - I don't know any of her background so I have no idea how old she is. She just layed an egg, so now I know she obviously is of breeding age. I'm just trying to get a clue what range of ages that would be. For example, does that mean she is probably a younger bird, or do they continue to lay up until old age.

Thanks!

She now is up to three eggs. She is laying them every third day rather than every other. Monday night, Thursday night, and Sunday morning. Her first two eggs weighed 10 grams, third 9 grams. Her weight after laying is around 145 g, and goes up to around 154/155 g as she gets ready for the next egg. But her normal weight before going into laying mode was more like 130 g. I'm guessing that since her weight is still up, she has more eggs in the pipe line?

She is in full nesting mode. Sitting on them already even though not all laid.

Do any of these stats give clues as to possibly an older vs. younger hen?

Thanks for any help!
