1st Baby's

Post by Tallis »

Hi
I had a pair this season breed for the 1st time, both are young birds [ IRN } she had 4 eggs with only 1 hatching and that one died about 3 days after hatching.
Should this be put down to them being young birds and inexperience?
The cock bird did a great job feeding her when she was sitting on the eggs.
Any input would be great.

Thanks for your reply, I was told by a breeder here that once the hen goes in the nest its best to not go near it until at least 2 month's.
She said a big mistake some people have is checking the nest every couple of day's, this is very off putting for the hen.
I'm putting the loss down to inexperience, fingers crossed for next season.
