Calculator Question

Post by JimHcctx »

I just purchased a 4 year old grey male ringneck. The parents of this bird were 1.0 grey and 0.1 lutino. making his only possibly combination (assuming they are both as stated) 1.0 grey(sf) green /blue ino .

Plugging this into the genetics calculator (grey(sf), Blue (split), Ino (split), and mating him to a 0.1 lutino hen I get.

1.0/Males as:
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) green /ino
12.5% 1.0 green /ino
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) green /blue ino
12.5% 1.0 green /blue ino
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) ino
12.5% 1.0 ino
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) ino /blue
12.5% 1.0 ino /blue

0.1/Females as:
12.5% 0.1 grey(sf) ino
12.5% 0.1 ino
12.5% 0.1 grey(sf) ino /blue
12.5% 0.1 ino /blue
12.5% 0.1 grey(sf) green
12.5% 0.1 green
12.5% 0.1 grey(sf) green /blue
12.5% 0.1 green /blue

Going back to the first page of the calculator, I then select "Visuals only (no splits) " just to trim down the list. Now I get:

1.0 Males as:
25.0% 1.0 grey(df) green
25.0% 1.0 green
25.0% 1.0 grey(df) ino
25.0% 1.0 ino

0.1 Females as:

% from all 0.1

25.0% 0.1 grey(df) ino
25.0% 0.1 ino
25.0% 0.1 grey(df) green
25.0% 0.1 green

My first question is simply; why is the calculator showing me Double Factors in the grey when I run it as visual only and only showing single factor birds when I run it normally?

Second question ; The ino hen is just one of several I have available, does anyone have a better pairing combination for a grey male? I have blue, cin-blue, blue violet, dbl-factor blue violet, green pallid, turquoise, cin-turquoise.

Thanks
Jim H

I believe when you remove the splits and put visuals only...it removes all of the split options, thereby combining all of the grey(sf) green results making them grey(DF) green results.

For example:
It would combine line 1&3 into a DF because it would record no splits

1.0/Males as:
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) green /ino
12.5% 1.0 green /ino
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) green /blue ino
12.5% 1.0 green /blue ino
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) ino
12.5% 1.0 ino
12.5% 1.0 grey(sf) ino /blue
12.5% 1.0 ino /blue
I am owned by my birds...and I wouldn't have it any other way :D

you need to input: grey sf & blue visual not split if your bird is grey and not grey green

getting grey(df) then you must have ticked both grey for hen & male, remove grey from hen column (click reset to start clean slate)

Ben, I went back and did that just to check...twice...and that is the result it gives. I thought at first he left the blue off also. But it gives grey(sf)green/blue /ino as the result. Is the calculator off??? He's saying that the grey he bought had parents that were 1.0 grey x 0.1 lutino so that means the grey he bought could only be a a grey(sf) green /blue /ino according to e calculator results.

Also when you plug in the grey(sf)green /blue /ino x lutino the results are as I posted above you. But if you check off visuals only, it changes all of the sf results to DF results. It looks like it takes all of the 12.5% results in each possible outcome with splits and combines the "like" visuals into 25% results, but turns all sf's into df's. maybe it's a glitch.

That's great, but who actually fixes these things?
