Definitely sounds like a bluffing stage. You could maybe take a hands off approach for awhile. Still talk to him and be around him as much as possible, but limit your physical contact or let him decide when he wants physical contact. It passes with time, but this is a crossroads of sorts. What you d...

The black tip is normal. The peeling is also normal but can be controlled with either a cement perch or something ales equally rough to rub its beak on. Here in Hawaii we use lava rock. Hope that helps

Thanks MissK, I will try the food lure and see how that goes. I have tried setting up my recall perches in front of her cage so that she could watch my conure, but I truly think she is scared. Like your rocky, she only flys when startled. I got her when she was about 10 months old and she had been c...

My sun, who never flys off my shoulder unless told to, got startled yesterday and flew out of my garage and into a tree. I thank my lucky stars that she is trained in flight recall. Talking...or not so much???
My girl is 13 months old now. I know they say both male and female ringnecks can talk, but I have yet to hear a single clear word out of her. She whistles and imitates noises around the house, but no talking. I spend on average, 4-5 hours a day interacting with her. Will she ever learn to talk or is...

As a rule when I'm sick I go nowhere near my birds. So of course they really hate that. I take those cat toy balls with the bell in it, take the bell out and wrap bits of peanut in paper towel and stuff it back in the ball. It keeps my baby entertained for a long time. Also like jen&bug said, re...

Re: Dead chicks
Good :) glad to hear it. As for the embryos dying in the shells, it most likely is a humidity issue. This can be combatted by spraying the eggs lightly with warm water starting from three days before they are due to hatch. If your natural climate is constantly changing it could cause egg dehydration...

Re: Dead chicks
Parents that pass a disease to the chicks can have normal healthy looking chicks. But because of the lack of immune system in the babies, they will not survive long. I can only suggest you have your birds tested before breeding again to prevent any more deaths. Good luck

Have your birds been seen by a vet and tested for diseases? Have they been tested as carriers for polyomavirus? That's the only thing I can think of why they can't hatch healthy babies.

Hi Josi, Sounds like all is going well. It takes some time for an IRN to get past the fear of hands. What I found worked for mine was ignoring her completely. I would sit in my recliner with her and I would sit on my hands. After about a week of that, I moved my hands to right beside my legs. Then a...

I find it very helpful as well. I read everything I could about ringnecks before buying one. I thought I was prepared...boy was I wrong lol. Communication and understanding and a whole lot of patience are key in forming a great relationship with your IRN.

Hello all, I read through this whole post and find your nut issue similar to what I was going through. I fixed it though. To me it looks like the bird perched below the blue male has similar traits as your bird. Maybe it's just my iPad...but the beak shape and head shape look similar. Also the wing color. Is that a pic of a female and if so is it possible that could be the mum??

Re: Losing control, time to clip?
From personal experience, all of my birds are better behaved when they are clipped. I know a lot of people on here don't agree, but if you are a novice bird owner, clipping may be a good beginning for you. The first time you attempt it on your own you should have two people. One to gently but firmly...
